St. Elizabeth Ann Seton School (SEAS) is a Catholic parochial elementary school that is situated on nine acres in North Kenner, within the Seton Parc subdivision. It was established in 1984 by the Archdiocese of New Orleans along with the parish of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton.  On July 1, 2009, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton and Nativity of Our Lord parishes merged to form Divine Mercy Parish.

Spiritual Development

The motto of our school is “Our eyes are fixed on the Lord” (Ps 123), and this is the core of our school life.  The students are given numerous opportunities to grow in the Catholic faith.  Sacrament preparation, daily prayer, and religious instruction are incorporated into the curriculum.  Students participate in liturgies and paraliturgies throughout the year.  Students in every grade put  faith into action through their participation in various community service projects.  The teachings of Jesus are more than a subject at SEAS—they are a way of life.

Academics and Technology

From our beginning, SEAS has developed a reputation for academic excellence.  Our school is accredited by the state of Louisiana, the Archdiocese of New Orleans, and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.  Many of our former students have received honors and scholarships both in high school and in college.  Our textbooks are state approved and current.  Our challenging curriculum includes a lab approach to science, honors classes in math and literature, the Kodály Music program, and standardized test preparation.  Students also receive instruction in library, computer, and physical education.  Foreign languages are taught in pre-kindergarten through seventh grade.  Special student needs are met through the services of a full time guidance counselor and a full-time Individual Needs teacher.

Academics at SEAS are augmented with the latest technology.  In the computer lab, students learn computer skills and how to effectively use Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as how to safely navigate the internet.  All classrooms have at least two computers, and all classrooms in pre-k 4 through seventh grade have interactive white boards.  Middle school has access to classroom netbooks which are used for research and writing assignments.  Homework assignments are posted online.  Students in grades three through five are encouraged to broaden their reading skills through electronic monitoring by their participation in the Accelerated Reading Program.

SEAS offers comprehensive and diverse programs to foster the physical and social development of our students. Student Population and Extended Care

SEAS includes classes for two-year-olds (pre-k 2) through seventh grade and has a student population of about 500 students per year. The average class size is 25-30 with two sections of each grade in kindergarten through seventh.  All of our teachers are certified, and pre-k and kindergarten classes are staffed with certified teachers and full time assistants.  Pre-k 2 and pre-k 3 classes learn in our state-of-the-art Early Childhood Center.

Before and after school care is provided by an experienced staff at a nominal fee.  Before school care begins at 6:30 A.M., and after school care continues until 6:00 P.M.  Students registered in Extended Care may participate in an after school homework room which is monitored by one of our faculty members.

Parental and Extended Family Involvement

Families are an integral component of our children’s success!  We have an active Home and School Association which has received many archdiocesan awards.  Our Grandparents Club hosts activities and provides support to our students and faculty.  SEAS is also assisted by additional organizations such as the school Advisory Board, Men’s Club, and Knights of Columbus.
